The character is an asian doll (drawn by the author's daughter) who is a recurring plot point in the book. The doll has fair skin, dark hair, dark eyes, she is a doll who is passed on to different time periods and inside of the doll is a main code or “key” to the story so try to make her cute while also giving her/ the surrounding cover a sci-fi edginess. She wears a sewn nametag on her spacesuit that says “N.N.”

"The scientist pulled out a doll and presented it to the droid with a weak flourish. It was in the shape of an Asian woman, young and dressed in a spacesuit. “This doll is Nikki Neptune, and she is very important to me,” He pushed a button on Nikki Neptune’s coat and a compartment slid open in her chest, exposing a tiny silver disk… Zhang gently tapped the cargo pocket holding Nikki Neptune. “Everything will be right inside her…I’ve programmed you to value Nikki as your most prized possession. You shan’t let anyone take her from you.”
